I agree with your comments but the American's see civilian deaths as collateral damage. War is death, sometimes terrible, painful, death but it seems that this is the only way that we can "fix" certain problems when diplomacy fails. I understand what Bush, Blair and Howard are doing.
You cannot allow rogue states such as Iraq to obtain chemical, biological or nuclear weapons. Saddam has used chemical and biological weapons previously on the Kurds. He is a danger not only to his own society but to the world in general. He has been given every opportunity in the past 10 years to turn away from the path that he has chosen but unfortunately, his footsteps
have led him into inevitable conflict and time has caught up with him.
Who knows if the American's are using the above as an excuse to finish what they stated in 1990 ... or if they seek access to Iraq's oil ... or if they hope Iraq will position them strategically in the Middle East ... only time will tell.
Personally, I believe the British and Australian Prime Ministers do not go into this war lightly - Blair and Howard are good men, men of courage and I don't doubt that the decision to support the US has come lightly - both have agonised - you can see it in their strained faces and in their eyes.
There is much that we don't know and many secrets that remain hidden from us.
The truth can be found under all the propaganda that abounds.
The world, at present is in crisis and it is not going to improve in
the short term - North Korea is another matter to be dealt with along with Iran.
Rogue states will continue to raise their heads. Both you and I are lucky we live in relative peace and safety - we live in democratic societies and we can protest our Government's decisions. We have that liberty, unfortunately, many people in the world do not.
I don't support the war yet I understand why it is happening. I
understand the decisions my Government and other Government's have made. I wish there was another way without war ... innocents die in conflict ...
it is unavoidable and it is going to happen however smart the bombs may be. My only hope that the trigger is not deliberately aimed at innocent civilians, that every effort will be made to protect the defenceless and that casualties will be few. I will pray that this is so ... - by kippers
